For three days in September, Grudziądz will put its own musicians at the heart of a free outdoor festival alongside established names from Polish rock.
A city's music scene is often heard in places that rarely make the headlines: rehearsal rooms, small venues, local stages and the bands that continue playing long after the spotlight has moved elsewhere. GruRock was created around that idea, bringing Grudziądz's rock musicians together on one stage and giving the local scene a setting large enough to show its breadth.
The fifth edition of GruRock, the Festiwal Grudziądzkich Zespołów, will take place from 3 to 5 September 2026 at Marina Grudziądz. The programme brings together 31 local bands with three established Polish rock acts: Illusion, Pull The Wire and Proletaryat. All concerts are free to attend.
The scale of the local programme is significant when set against the festival's recent history. The first two editions featured 14 Grudziądz bands each. In 2024, that number rose to 21, while the fourth edition in 2025 expanded to 28 local acts and became a three-day festival. The 2026 programme increases the local representation again, to 31 bands.
A festival built around the local scene
That progression is more than a matter of numbers. From its beginning, GruRock has been designed to bring together musicians with different levels of experience, from established figures in the Grudziądz scene to newer and younger performers.
The organisers describe the festival as a meeting point for rock and related genres, including metal, blues and hard rock. Its purpose is not simply to provide a succession of concerts, but to bring much of the city's guitar-based music community together in one place. For musicians, the festival also offers an opportunity to exchange experience and strengthen connections within the local scene.
The 2026 programme makes that breadth visible. Thursday begins at 14:30 with Unspoken, followed by Spektrum, InVitro, Anna Jędrzejczyk, Syriusz, The Champions Queen, Małowiele, The Broken Bridges, Tenacity and Face 2 Face before Illusion closes the evening at 22:00.
Friday follows the same format, beginning with The Farmers at 14:30 and moving through The Otters, Natreya, Dead Simulation, Tarpianie, Toksyna, Evolet, Melisa, Let Us Love and Cela nr 3 before Pull The Wire takes the stage at 22:00. Saturday starts earlier, at 13:45, with Delta and continues through a further ten Grudziądz acts before Proletaryat closes the festival at 22:00.
The result is a programme in which the better-known names are part of a wider local story rather than the entire focus of the event.
From Grudziądz musicians to Polish rock
The national acts nevertheless give each evening a clear point of arrival. Illusion opens the sequence of headline performances on Thursday, Pull The Wire follows on Friday, and Proletaryat brings the three-day programme to a close on Saturday.
For Illusion, the Grudziądz appearance also connects the festival to a much longer history of Polish rock. The Gdańsk band was formed in 1992 by Tomasz "Lipa" Lipnicki, Jerzy "Jerry" Rutkowski and Paweł Herbasch, with Jarek Śmigiel joining soon afterwards. The group won the first Marlboro Rock-in competition in 1993 and released its debut album later that year. Its appearance at GruRock therefore places a band with more than three decades of history alongside musicians continuing to develop their own local scene.
That combination has become part of GruRock's identity. Previous editions have similarly paired local musicians with recognised names from Polish rock. In 2024, the festival featured Turbo and Golden Life, while the 2025 edition brought Kobranocka, The Bill and TSA MNKWL to the Marina.
There is also a continuity to the setting. Marina Grudziądz has hosted the festival since at least its third edition, providing an outdoor location where the local music community can occupy a prominent public space. The city's event listings describe GruRock as having become a regular fixture in Grudziądz's cultural calendar and an important meeting point for fans of rock music.
With 31 local bands now on the programme, the fifth edition points to a festival whose most important story may be the scene it has created around itself. The headline acts bring wider recognition, but the festival's distinctive character comes from giving Grudziądz musicians, from experienced performers to younger artists, the same stage and the same audience. In that sense, GruRock is becoming a record of the city's living musical culture, made one performance at a time.
